From production to consumption-oriented development: New planning strategies in science parks? The case of Sophia-Antipolis

Recent works have highlighted the role of consumption in regional development and questioned focus on production-oriented approaches planning. To date, consumption-oriented strategies only been studied specific cases such as rural areas or urban regeneration projects. This article examines impact growth activities local policymaking processes. do so, it studies reshaping planning science park Sophia-Antipolis context a growing residential economy. We show that governments are now questioning traditional policies tensions appear between maintaining area’s high-tech specialization meeting demands residents for services amenities. However, production- should not be seen being incompatible. Consumption-oriented aim at reducing dependence activities, but they also contribute to some park’s challenges, housing shortages. They help attract retain highly skilled executives engineers park. More than turn, recent Sophia mark shift from technopolitan strategy hybrid based tools embedded vast continuum strategies.
